The goal of our economic development project is to create a viable
economy based on responsible biofuel farming. Jatropha is a
drought resistant plant that grows on marginal land. It improves soil
and reverses the effects of deforestation by re-stabilizing hillsides. Oil
extracted from Jatropha seeds and can be refined into biofuel. This
industry will create many jobs.
Because it is so pure, Jatropha oil can be used in generators and
diesel engines in developing countries without refinement. The
by-product, seed cake, can be pressed into a charcoal substitute
eliminating the need for continuous de-forestation Sirona Cares
believes that the key to the future lies in the hands of the children of
the community. Due to high mortality during childbirth, AIDS, poor
sanitation, malnutrition and over-population, poverty stricken areas
are filled with orphaned and abandoned children. Improving their
health, nutrition and education is our goal.
In time the efforts of the Sirona team will meet to break the cycle of
poverty and ecological destruction in developing countries.

All of Sirona Cares’ programs are run by in-country community
leaders. We do not create our own schools or orphanages, we
support and enhance facilities already existing in the community.
